What to do when wild weather wreaks havoc

The weather on the US East Coast has broken records this year, beginning with a huge hurricane, followed by severe flooding, followed by a historic snowstorm that struck this past weekend. The latest storm brought record-breaking snowfall and cut power to millions, causing massive traffic jams, interrupting virtually all modes of travel and closing many schools.

At the same time, Thailand is suffering the country's worst flooding in fifty years, bringing much of the country’s infrastructure to a halt. Floodwaters in Bangkok have closed Don Mueang Airport to commercial flights, stranding half-submerged jetliners on the runways and claiming at least 381 lives, while the country's government scrambles to come up with a recovery plan.
