San Francisco's Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT CA-6)

San Francisco's Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT CA-6) is one of the field components of The National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) and is a federally coordinated system that augments the Nation's medical response capability. One of the overall purposes of the NDMS is to establish a single integrated National medical response capability for assisting state and local authorities in dealing with the medical impacts of major peacetime disasters.

When a forest fire or other disaster strikes, San Francisco's Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT CA-6), must gather 100 to 150 volunteers together and respond to the call for help. Before working with MIR3, it took 12 regional coordinators six hours to notify and determine availability of team members who could go to the site.

The Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI)

The Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) program was established by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) "to build a sustainable and measurable increase in the capability of key urban areas to prevent, deter, and respond to terrorist attacks within the U.S."

The Miami Urban Area includes Miami-Dade, Broward, and Monroe counties and the municipalities within. In addition, working through the Southeast Regional Domestic Security Task Force, the Urban Area supports planning, training and exercises over a four county area that include Palm Beach County.

After receiving Homeland Security funds through the Miami Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI), the four counties implemented the MIR3 Intelligent Notification platform to speed the process of notifying and mobilizing first responders during disasters that pose a threat to human lives.

Lacey Fire District

Since 1948, Lacey Fire District has been responding to calls for emergency medical services and fire protection and serves a community that includes more than 73,500 people living in a 70 square mile area inside North Thurston County and the City of Lacey. Lacey Fire District is comprised of five neighborhood stations that are staffed with career employees and volunteers who are more than just firefighters and medics; they're friends, family members and neighbors.

When multiple fires and other emergencies occur simultaneously, resources are stretched thin, and everyone's time must be used effectively. MIR3 replaced the time-intensive manual phone tree system, allowing firefighters and paramedics to be quickly notified and informed during emergencies.

The County of Orange

The County of Orange, located in Southern California has a population of 3,002,048 (2006 U.S. Census Bureau estimate) and is the third largest county in the state. The county is known for its wealth and political conservatism, although it is in reality neither as uniformly wealthy nor as homogeneously conservative as its stereotypical image suggests.

The County of Orange is also a famous tourist destination, as the county is home to such attractions as Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm and has world famous beaches for swimming and surfing, yacht harbors for sailing and pleasure boating. The county has extensive acreage devoted to parks and open space for golf, tennis, hiking, kayaking, cycling, and other outdoor recreation. It is also known as the center of Southern California's Tech Coast.

Los Angeles County

Los Angeles County, one of California's original 27 counties, was established Feb. 18, 1850 and includes the islands of San Clemente and Santa Catalina. It is bordered on the east by Orange and San Bernardino Counties, on the north by Kern County, on the west by Ventura County, and on the south by the Pacific Ocean. Its coastline is 75 miles long.

Los Angeles has the largest population (10,292,723 as of July 2006) of any county in the nation, and is exceeded by only eight states. Approximately 28 percent of California's residents live in Los Angeles County.
